The Laurels at Landhope Combined Driving Event is pleased to
offer continuing support to its very worthy charities. The Brandywine Conservancy and The Cheshire Hunt Conservancy have each set the highest standards for the preservation of open space in this area. For decades their tireless efforts have ensured that thousands of acres of land remain undeveloped and that water resources and air quality are preserved. The Brandywine River Museum, attracts large numbers of visitors yearly to view its Wyeth family collection as well as special exhibitions. The Large Animal Protection Society was founded in 1988 to fill the need in the state for an agency that would look after the welfare of farm animals. As defined by its Charter, LAPS upholds the laws of the State of Pennsylvania regarding cases of abuse, neglect or cruelty. Its first responsibility is to educate owners or caretakers on the proper care and shelter requirements as defined by law. In extreme cases, LAPS has the authority to seize animals that are in imminent danger. Members of the Board of Directors generously house and rehabilitate those animals. The University of Pennsylvania’s New Bolton Center for Large Animals is a local treasure. As one of the top schools of veterinary medicine in the world, it offers treatment to thousands of farm animals every year. Through its research and outreach programs, New Bolton is at the forefront of veterinary science.
